Googles Android 15 update promises to deliver enhancements, in battery performance especially when the device is idle. With improvements to Androids Doze Mode, which was first introduced in Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphones powered by Android 15 could experience a three hours of time compared to current models.

Dave Burke, Googles VP of Engineering for Android mentioned that the internal enhancements in Android 15 will enable devices to activate Doze Mode 50% than on Android 14 leading to improved standby times. This advancement could potentially bring Android devices closer, to achieving the battery life seen in Apples iPhones.

The upcoming standby time enhancement, in Android 15 has the potential to revolutionize the experience for Android users as its set to be accessible on all devices with the OS version. Googles tests have shown a boost of up to three hours of standby time marking a significant advancement compared to current Android phone capabilities.

Although these enhancements won’t be integrated into this years Wear OS 5 which is built on Android 14 smartwatches will still benefit from background task management. This improvement will allow smartwatches to handle background tasks while charging of when worn on the wrist resulting in a 20% decrease in battery usage during activities, like tracking outdoor marathons.
